East Africa-- Cookstoves

In late 2006, as part of Shell Foundation’s Breathing Space Program, EWV was selected to perform an analysis of market opportunities for reducing indoor air pollution (IAP) in four East African countries- Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania. The goals of this ongoing assessment are to fully understand the nature of the market before distinguishing which regions are worst-affected by IAP; identify which of those regions offers realistic commercialization potential for IAP-reducing technologies; and isolate which types of consumers should be targeted and what kinds of devices and promotional strategies will be most appropriate for those consumers.

EWV has fielded a world-class team of biomass energy and enterprise specialists to gather, analyze and deliver the information required for Shell Foundation to design an appropriate regional IAP program for East Africa.
